When sometimes had to ride buses from one city to the next for such things as transfers and zone sonferences. The dirt roads were bumpy. Often I would sit up next to the bus driver. The busses had manual steering. And we would go bouncing down the road he would keep hands on the outside of the steering wheel as it whipped back and forth each time we hit another hole.

The trips were far from comfortable. Yet I always enjoyed the adventure of the ride. Mostly because as we stopped in each little town. People and kids would come up to the bus selling refreshments.

This was about the only time we could leave are small areas and see a bit more of the Philippines.
